What we can do for you

Stoke on Trent City Council is a local weights and measures authority and can provide calibration services or hire of weights which are traceable to national standards.

Weights 30kg to 1 mg - M1 tolerance (OIML) or below.

Measures of Length Rigid measure up to 1 metre ±1mm

Flexible measure 1 metre – 10 metres ±1mm

Measures of capacity – tested gravimetrically – maximum up to 60kg gross weight

Hire of weights traceable to national standards up to 500kg (50 x 10kg weights)

We can also provide business advice on weights and measures requirements, including quantity marking on prepacked products, and equipment in use for trade.

We have qualified weights and measures authorised Trading Standards Officers, available to assist you with calibration, testing and business advice. We can offer a local service and operate on a cost recovery basis only therefore offer competitive prices.

Weights and Measures – Testing or adjusting weights

Testing, verification or adjusting weights and measures Quality Assurance Testing and adjusting of weights including certificate M1 tolerance or below.

Equipment used solely for testing of motorcycle brakes, tested at 100, 200 and 300lb or metric equivalent including issue of certificate

Charges at hourly rate of £70.50 +VAT per Weights and Measures Inspector and £42.50 + VAT per support officer

Hire of weights

Per day or part thereof up to and including 1,000 kg	£50.00 + VAT
Per day or part thereof over 1,000 kg	£70.50 + VAT
Issue of a certificate	£60.00 + VAT

* An additional fee of £109.00 per hour will be charged in respect of weights returned in a dirty condition.

£60 + VAT

General Note on Weights and Measures charges:

In exceptional circumstances, a special rate may be arranged by agreement
Where work is requested outside normal office hours fees or charges will be increased by 50%
Any additional verification work not covered above will be charged at the stated hourly rates.
Charges are made on the basis of rate per hour taken or part thereof, including appropriate preparation handling and testing of equipment and production of certificate required
A charge of £70.50 + VAT per hour is payable for the agreed collection and delivery of calibration items with the minimum charge of £48.00 +VAT
